Seated Virgin and Child; Christ in long robe; Christ seated on the Virgin's left knee.

Volbach 1923: France, mid 14th century.

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Prior to WWII
Very cracked and damaged. Missing: right forearm of the Virgin; head and left hand of Christ; part of the base. Hole under the base.
Today
Almost completely destroyed during WWII; one fragment has survived.

Provenance
Acquired by the Museum in 1903; undocumented after 7 April 1945; one fragment has survived and was returned by the Soviet Union to the Museum in 1958.
