Provenance
Said to have come from the abbey of Saint-Denis (see second Garinet notebook (objets d'art), no. 30: 'La paix en ivoire de l'abbaye de Saint-Denis représentant le Christ en croix, avec saint Jean debout devant la croix XVe siècle'). Collection of Jules Garinet (b. 1797, d. 1877): by inheritance to his wife, Marguerite-Victoire Garinet; Garinet bequest to the museum in 1899.
