Wing, left
Register 1: Death of the Virgin (Dormition); Entombment of the Virgin; angel.
Register 2: Flagellation; whips.
Register 3: Presentation in the Temple; Joseph holding a basket of doves brought as offerings; Christ standing on the altar between the Virgin and Simeon.
Register 4: Annunciation; Visitation.
Centre panel
Register 1: Christ in glory; crown. Assumption (Virgin borne to Heaven by angels); angels holding the soul of the Virgin. Entombment (Anointing of Christ's body), with Holy Women.
Register 2: Mocking of Christ or Arrest of Christ; sword. Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist.
Register 3: Flight into Egypt. Temptation of Judas; Judas receiving the reward; hanging purse.
Register 4: Adoring Magi. Nativity with Joseph holding Christ.
Wing, right
Register 1: Resurrection with one soldier asleep.
Register 2: Deposition with the Virgin holding Christ's arm; Joseph of Arimathea holding Christ's body; saint John the Evangelist in prayer; man with pincers removing the nail from Christ's feet.
Register 3: Betrayal (Taking of Christ; Kiss of Judas).
Register 4: Annunciation to the Shepherds.

Darcel and Basilewski 1874: France, 13th century.
Koechlin 1924: France, end of the 1st half of the 14th century.
Kryzhanovskaya 2014: France (?), 1st third of the 14th century; Christ in glory and frame: 19th century.

Style of the Soissons group (Atelier du Diptyque de Soissons) (Koechlin 1924)

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding and polychromy: red (lining of garments; whip; swaddles; ground; etc.), blue (lining of garments), green (lining of garments; grass), green and red (painted vine in the Annunciation to the Shepherds scene), black (shoes), gold (along the hems; tree; hair and beards; wings; manger, etc.), grey (hair), brown (hair).

Reverse
Hidden by the frame.

Object Condition
Background damaged.
Part of the copper frame lost.
Panel for the Entombment and 'Assumption broken diagonally. Background of the Nativity scene broken in many pieces, some of them missing.
The diamond-shaped panel with Christ in glory is later.

Comments
Made of separate rectangular and triangular panels in a wood and copper frame. The overall measurements are: 465 x 380mm, including the frame.

Provenance
Collection of Pierre Révoil, Lyons. Collection of Alexander Petrovich Basilewski (b. 1829, d. 1899), Paris, acquired between 1870 and 1874; acquired by the museum in 1885.
