Ivory

Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist; Stephaton giving Christ vinegar; Stephaton holding a bucket; Longinus with spear in prayer; cruciform halo; angels holding the sun and the moon.
Pointed trefoil in the gable. Pinnacles.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Traces of glue.
Label with pencil inscription: '1899 165'

Object Condition
Wrenching with chunks of ivory missing around two former hinges on left border.
Hole for suspension at the top.

Provenance
Collection of Sydney Vacher (b. 1854, d. 1934), architect, London; brought to the attention of Colonel Plunkett, director of the Dublin Museum of Science and Art by A. B. Skinner, from the South Kensington Museum, and bought in 1899 (£6).
