Reverse
Carved in the round.Ink inscription in the lower part of the statuette: '312'.

Object Condition
Left arm of the Virgin broke and was glued back into place. Chip along the edge of the Virgin's cloak.Missing: object formerly placed in the Virgin's left hand; right forearm of Christ.

Comments
Light traces on the Virgin's head, seem to indicate that the statuette may have had a metalwork crown now lost.

Provenance
Medici collection (mentioned in 1777 when it was transferred from the Guardaroba generale of the great dukes of Tuscany to the Real Galleria di Firenze (also mentioned in a 1784 inventory: Inventario generale della Real Galleria di Firenze compilato nel 1784, essendo direttore della medesima Giuseppe Pelli Bencivenni, 1784; Biblioteca degli Uffizi, ms 113, no. 31); became part of the collection of the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in 1865.
