Seated Virgin and Child; Christ seated on the Virgin's left knee; Christ in long robe; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand; Christ originally holding a bird (lost); crown; brooch.

Koechlin 1924: France, 2nd half of the 14th century.
Erbach 1993: Germany, end of the 14th - beginning of the 15th century.
Kryzhanovskaya 2014: Germany, mid 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy (red).

Reverse
Carved in the round.
Back of the bench carved with one blind arch on either side of a medallion enclosing a pierced trefoil.

Object Condition
Missing: right hand of the Virgin; bird in Christ's right hand (remains of its tail on the Virgin's right arm); right hand of Christ.
Crown and edges of theVirgin's cloak chipped. Vertical cracks.

Provenance
Acquired in 1886 in Vienna by the Stieglitz Museum of Applied Arts; transferred to the Hermitage in 1926.
