Standing apostle or prophet, holding an open book.
Koechlin 1924: France, end of 14th or beginning of 15th century.
Randall 1985: Italian, 1st half of the 14th century. Attributed to the School of Giovanni Pisano.

Reverse
Carved in the round. Flat as if were intended to be placed against a background, but with vertical folds.
Object Condition
Base has been cut above the feet. Minor alterations made to the hemline. Partially cleaned at one time. Wide hole in the top of the hood.

Collection of Octave Homberg (b. 1876, d. 1941), Paris: sold, Paris, 16 May 1908, lot 493 (purchased by Lancades). Bought by Henry Walters from Léon Gruel in Paris before 1931; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
