Wing, left
Saint Margaret rising from the dragon, holding a crucifix; hanging lamp; church; female kneeling figure in donor position.
Wing, right
Seated Virgin and Child; female kneeling figure in donor position; hanging lamp; book.
Flamboyant tracery; pinnacles; crosshatched background.

De Coo 1933 and 1969: France (?), 2nd half of the 14th century.
Leeuwenberg 1969: France, last quarter of the 18th century or 1st half of the 19th century.
Museum's opinion 2012: France (?), 2nd half of the 14th century.


Attribution
Master of the Forgeries of Elegant Figures (Leeuwenberg 1969)

Hinges
Two hinges.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy.

Reverse
Flat and smooth with three deep horizontal notches on the outer side of the back of each wing.Label with inscription: '178'.

Object Condition
The back of the wings seems to indicate that they once were mounted the other way round, with have been intended to saint Margaret to the right.
Leg of the pulpit missing (since 1967).

Provenance
Left wing only:
Commarmond collection.
Right wing only:
Collection of Louis Fidel Debruge-Duménil (b. 1788; d. 1838): sale, Paris 28-31 January 1840, lot tbc.
Both wings:
Collection of Carlo Micheli (d. 1895?), Paris: sold with the rest of his collection in 1898 by his daughter, Marie Micheli, to Fritz Mayer van den Bergh (b. 1858, d. 1901), Antwerp; upon his death, his mother Henriëtte had a purpose-built museum erected (1901-1904) to house his collection.
