Ivory

Height: 93mm
Width: 66mm
Depth: 4-6mm

Crucifixion, with jet of blood striking the Virgin's chest; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; Adam collecting Christ's blood in a chalice at the foot of the cross; cruciform halo.
Pointed trefoils.

Museum's opinion 2011: French (Ile-de-France), c. 1400.

Reverse
Flat and smooth.Remains of white and red round label. Label with handwritten 'no. 7'. Label with handwritten inscription: '15th century leaf of diptych. The section I hear first passed thro St Mary's [...] I shall has this [...]'. tbcEngraved '1547'.

Object Condition
Two later holes in the upper part of the panel.

Bequest of Alice Baird, Geneva, 1926 (via Mr Baird and Mrs van Muyden-Baird, her heirs).
