Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Hole in the base, presumably to insert the blade, but it has also been suggested that it could have held needles.

Provenance
Found in 1988 during archeological excavations of the church of the preaching friars (Frères prêcheurs) in Arles, in a 12th-14th-century context, though the layers had been disturbed.
