The reverse side is slightly recessed.

Object Condition
Missing: candles in the candlesticks held by the angels.
Several drilled holes (modern).

Comments
This panel and another depicting the Crucifixion (1977.82.) originally were the covers of a set of writing tablets which were later transformed into a diptych.

Provenance
Given to the museum by Dr August Meyer, Basel, in 1977.
