Comments
The vellum case in which the triptych was carried has survived and has foliated decoration. The triptych can be kept closed with a latch of ivory.

Provenance
Alba Fucens, church of San Niccolò. Mentioned for the first time in 1639 in Visita pastorale di Mons. Lorenzo Massimi (A.D.M. Fondo, Visite Pastorali B 1/4 c 23, year 1639, 14 July), designated as 'Madonnina d'avolio'). Later mentioned by Pietro Antonio Corsignani who gives a detailed description of the 'sacre reliquie' originally kept in the Church of San Pietro and moved in 1574 to the church of San Niccolò to protect them in a time of invasions; after the 1915 earthquake, it is stressed that the ivory triptych is not part of the objects recovered (see I Danni... 1915, p. 83).
