Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by one of the Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlooker holding a scroll; sun and moon.
Pointed trefoils.

Hinges
Traces of hinges have disappeared, as the longer edges are damaged.

Reverse
Not visible: covered by the wooden frame.Label with inscription: '256'.

Object Condition
Longer edges badly damaged (repaired).
Cracked.

Provenance
Collection of Anton Josef Essingh (b. 1787, d. 1864), Cologne: his sale, Heberle, Cologne, 18 September 1865, lot 875. Purchased before 1901 by Fritz Mayer van den Bergh (b. 1858, d. 1901), Antwerp; upon his death, his mother Henriëtte had a purpose-built museum erected (1901-1904) to house his collection.
