The door is commonly dated to the 14th century. 'The Great Wood Door into the church (usually opened into the modern interior porch) is magnificent. There is the remains of a small Ivory Cross in the centre panel beside the wicket door. The inscription on the door reads: 'PAX CHRISTI SIT HUIC DOMUI ET OMNIBUS HABITANTIBUS IN EA HIC REQUIES NOSTRA' (The Peace of Christ be on this House and all dwelling in it, Here is our rest). The Wicket Door too has an inscription 'IN HOPE'.' (information taken from the locally produced guide to the church).
