Crucifixion with thieves; Virgin; saint John the Evangelist; sun and moon.
Medallions containing quatrefoils enclosing protruding cones in the spandrels.

Hinges
Traces of three missing hinges on the right side.

Reverse
The plaquette has been glued to a wooden panel to keep its pieces together.

Object Condition
Panel broken into two pieces which have been glued back together.
Missing: parts of the background.

Comments
It is rare to find the Crucifixion on the left leaf of a diptych, it usually features on the right.

Provenance
Probably the item described in a pre-1888 handwritten inventory kept at the museum as: 'Plaquette en ivoire: scène de la Vie de Jésus. XIVe siècle.' (p. 7). If this item corresponds to this piece, it was in the collection assembled by Alexandre Le Grand for the museum by 1888.
