Death of the Virgin (Dormition); Christ holding the soul of the Virgin; apostles.
Pointed trefoils in the gables and spandrels.

Institution's opinion 2015: late 14th century.

Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border. Old label with inscription: '1811'.

Object Condition
Missing: left and right edge; one piece from the lower left corner has broken off and remained detached (this break seems more recent than the other losses).
Central hole in the upper part of the panel.
Discolouration.

Provenance
Possibly lot 1811 in a 19th-century sale (see label on the reverse). Probably part of the ‘collection of miscellaneous ivory carvings depicting scenes from the gospels’ mentioned in the inventory drawn by Rev. William Greaney in 1880.
