Foliated decoration (remains of the volute).

Traces of gilding and polychromy: red on the Virgin's veil and gold on the crown.
Reverse
Carved in the round.
Object Condition
Missing: arms of the Virgin; probably seated Christ to her left; rest of the volute (part of it is visible on the back).
Crown et face of the Virgin chipped. Surface damage caused by extended burial.
Provenance
Found in 1932 during the archaeological excavations at the Cistercian Abbey of Alvastra; accessioned to the museum collections in the same year.
