Register 1: male dancer; musician with drum and whistle; jester holding a bauble.
Register 2: male dancer; female dancer; male dancer.
Body, front
Hunter with a spear; tree.
End, left
Dog pursuing a wolf (?).
Body, back and end, right (not seen)
Dog pursuing a hare. Dog pursuing a boar.
Chequered pattern on the bottom.
Crosshatched background; foliated border.


Koechlin Number: 1321

Koechlin 1924: France, end of 15th century.
Châlons-en-Champagne 2007-2008: Flanders, mid 15th century.

Traces of gilding and polychromy.

Reverse
Carved on all sides.

Object Condition
Missing: plaque to the left of the lock.

Comments
The carved bone panels have been applied on a later ebony box.
Label inside the box with inscription: 'Exp.on Retrospective de 1900 86 Châlons s/Marne'.

Provenance
Collection of Charles Picot (b. 1799, d. 1861)(no. 44 in his will): his bequest to the Museum in 1861.
