Object Condition
The ivory head certainly came from a Virgin and Child statuette and has been reused to be part of a 17th-century reliquary of saint Ursula, probably in a León workshop.
Provenance
From the Benedictine monastery of Sahagún, as it is recorded in the accounts of the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción that 572 reales were spent in 1811-1812 to dismantle the altarpiece in Sahagún and reassemble it in Villacarralón, further records make it clear that it was bought from the monastery (for more details, see Valladolid 2009).
