Standing Virgin and Child; Christ seated on left arm; bare-chested Christ; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand; Christ touching with his right hand the Virgin's chin.
On the base supported by lions
Front: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist.
Side, right: Simeon (part of a Presentation in the Temple scene continued on the opposite side).
Back: Adoration of the Magi.
Side, left: standing Virgin and Child (part of a Presentation in the Temple scene continued on the opposite side).
Crosshatched background; pinnacles.

Museum's opinion 2010: Italian, late 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of polychromy: cloak of the Virgin (blue); robe of Christ (red); background on the base (blue).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Comments
The base is carved in low relief and carved in a different piece of ivory.

Provenance
Acquired in London by Wolfgang Hofstätter, Vienna; sold by Hofstätter in 1967 to the Museum of Fine Arts (Edwin E. Jack Fund).
