Ivory

Height: 82mm
Width: 49mm
Depth: 6mm

Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; sun and moon.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Museum's opinion 2011: last quarter of the 14th century.
Williamson and Davies 2014: Mosan or German, late 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.

Object Condition
Cracked, diagonal crack across Christ's right arm. Two filled-in holes on either side the cross.

Provenance
Collection of Ch. Guillon: sold, Roermond, 30 November - 14 December 1874, lot 40; Nederlands Museum voor Geschiedenis en Kunst, The Hague (1875); transferred to Amsterdam in 1883.
