Standing Virgin and Child; Virgin holding a flower in her right hand; Christ holding a fruit or orb in his left hand; tender gesture of Christ touching with his right hand the Virgin's chin.
Angels holding crowns in the spandrels.


Koechlin Number: 0563

Koechlin 1924: French, mid 14th century.
Paris 1981 and Paris 1998: Eastern France (Lorraine), after the 1st quarter of the 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2012: 2nd half of the 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on either side.

Object Condition
Tip of Virgin's nose damaged (repaired). Pierced by holes.

Provenance
Recorded in the acquisition book of the Kunstkabinett as having been given by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (b. 1749, d. 1832) in December 1818 (it may have been a present from Goethe or bought at the Duke's request); the Kunstkabinett later merged with the Kunstsammlungen zu Weimar to form the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
