Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherds; swaddled Christ.
Diapered background. Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Glasgow Museums' opinion 2013: French, c. 1400.

Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border.

Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the panel. Worn.
Missing: lower right corner; part of one of the sheep seems to have been cut.

Provenance
May have been loaned to 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition (possibly Glasgow International Exhibition Catalogue, 1901, p. 3, Case B, no. 4 'Plaque, in ivory, carved to represent the Nativity'). Probably an early (pre-1911) acquisition by Burrell; given to the City of Glasgow by Sir William and Constance, Lady Burrell, in 1944.
