Museum's opinion 2011: French, 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges indicating that the wings were originally hinged with no frame. Hinge and frame have foliated decoration.

Reverse
Flat and smooth with later metal rings for hanging. Label recording the provenance with ink inscription: 'French 14th cent. the mount modern'.

Object Condition
Hinge and frame decorated with foliated decoration.

Provenance
Marlay collection: his bequest to the Museum in 1912.
