Register 1: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist.
Register 2: Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge Glorieuse); two standing angels holding candlesticks.
Pierced rounded trefoils and quatrefoils; row of blind arches.

Glasgow Museums' opinion 2013: French, c. 1280.


Attribution
Unknown

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on either side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth.

Object Condition
Missing: Virgin's hands and head of saint John (upper register); Virgin's right hand and face, head of Christ and candles (lower register).
Faces are damaged.

Provenance
Bought by Sir William Burrell from 'Mrs Bury', 8 July 1948 for £120; given to the City of Glasgow by Sir William and Constance, Lady Burrell, in 1944.
