Provenance
Bridgettine convent in Vadstena (Sweden), 16th century: inscription recording that this piece once belonged to the Bridgettine convent in Vadstena, which was taken and plundered in 1568 by Danish troops. The convent was actually plundered in 1567, which could indicate that this inscription could have been added several years after the event. Collection of Bertel Thorvaldsen (b. 1770, d. 1844).
