Seated Virgin and Child; Christ seated on the Virgin's left knee; Virgin holding a fruit in her right hand; Christ in long robe; Virgin trampling a monster under her left foot (basilisk); birds decorating the armrests of the throne.
Back and sides of the throne decorated with arches supported by colonnettes; tracery: medallions enclosing a trefoil; quatrefoils in the spandrels.
Foliated decoration including palmettes. Lion attacking a bull.

Koechlin 1924: France, 3rd quarter of 13th century.
Museum's opinion 2012: France, 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: architectural details; red (Virgin's clothes).

Reverse
Carved in the round. Back and sides of the throne decorated with arches supported by colonnettes; tracery: medallions enclosing a trefoil; quatrefoils in the spandrels. Foliated decoration including palmettes. Lion attacking a bull.

Object Condition
Missing: crown of the Virgin; the upper part of one of the column at the back of the throne.Hole above the head of the Virgin (to attach a metal crown now missing).
Hole on the base (perhaps to link the statuette to a base through a pivot).

Provenance
Carrand collection: bequeathed by Louis Carrand (d. 1888) to the Museo del Bargello in 1888.
