Ivory

Height: 116mm
Width: 80mm

Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; rugged cross; angel with hands clasped and angel crying.
Rounded pierced trefoils in the spandrels.

Randall 1993: French (?), 3rd quarter of the 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the right side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Blue and white label with inscription 'no. 11502 N55'. Blue and white label with the current inventory number.

Object Condition
Broken and riveted at the top left corner, border broken along the left hand side. The border has crosshatchings.
Missing: hands of the left hand-side angel.

Provenance
Given by John Gellatly in 1929.
