The 1927 Gilbert catalogue states that the pax was contained in a contemporary black leather case decorated with a standing saint James the Greater accompanied by the same coat of arms as that appearing on the ivory, a monogram, foliated scrolls and various attributes (se photograph). The case also bore the inscription: 'O MATER DEI MEMENTO .M.'.
