Polychromy - Gilding
Painted evangelists on the knob; foliated decoration. Extensive traces of polychromy (red and black) and gilding on evangelists and dragons on the head and knot of the crozier.
Reverse
Carved in the round.
Object Condition
The three parts cannot be fixed to each other properly, one piece of the staff is probably missing. One pinnacle of the knop is separate.
Provenance
Said to be from the monastery in Assisi. Purchased by the museum for 750 Swiss Francs from Alb. Sattler in Basel 1889.
