Wing, left
Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); two standing angels holding candlesticks; angel crowning the Virgin.
Wing, right
Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; angels holding the sun and the moon.
Rounded trefoils in the spandrels. Pinnacles.

Lowden 2008: France (Paris) or Germany (Cologne), c. 1350-1375.

Attribution
Style of the Master of the Berlin Triptych (Berlin Master)

Hinges
Two modern hinges.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. The four vertical edges of the diptych as folded have been chamfered off.

Object Condition
Cuttings and drilling on the hinging edges have been filled.
Extensive cracking of the ivory.

Comments
No trace of anything to hold the diptych closed: may have been carried around in a small bag (Lowden, 2008). Close to work attributed to the 'Berlin Master' (see Baltimore, Walters Art Museum, inv. no. 71.214 a-b; possibly Cologne, c. 1350-1375), but also to Musée du Louvre, inv. no. OA 2601 (Paris).
