Depth: 3mm

Register 1: Crucifixion; Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; rugged cross.
Register 2: Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherds.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Martini and Rizzardi 1990: Northern France or Western Germany, last third of the 14th century.
Martini 2004: Northern France or Germany (?), last third of the 14th century.

Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border.

Object Condition
Broken in 7 pieces. Central hole in the upper part of the panel.

Comments
This panel forms a pair with another writing tablet in the Ravenna collection (Inv. n. 1072)

Provenance
Classense collection, i.e. collection assembled by the Camaldolese monks of Sant'Apollinare in Classe near Ravenna, acquired mainly during the 18th century; with the suppression of religious orders in 1797, the possessions of Ravenna's important abbeys passed on to the Comune of Ravenna; in 1804, the Museo Classense Municipale was established, which would become in 1885 the Museo Nazionale di Ravenna.
