Gothic Ivories Project | Gabled centre panel (fragment of a triptych or polyptych), 2 registers (colonnettes) (Front)

Register 1: Crucifixion; Longinus piercing Christ's side; Stephaton giving Christ vinegar.
Register 2: Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); two standing angels holding candlesticks.
Tracery; blind arches.

Delignières 1902: 13th century.
Koechlin 1924: France, late 13th or early 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2013: Rhenish (?), 14th century.

Attribution
Soissons group (Atelier du Diptyque de Soissons) (Koechlin 1924)

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on either side.

Polychromy - Gilding
Faint traces of polychromy.

Reverse
Flat and smooth.
Blue and white label with pencil inscription '55' or '56' (?). Round label with ink inscription: '662 Abbevil.' Printed label '747'. Hardly legible printed label: '88' (?).

Object Condition
Missing: some of the foliated decoration along the gable; right arm of the Virgin; left arm of Longinus.
Spear held by Longinus and staff held by Stephaton broken.

Provenance
Given by abbé Dergny to the Museum in 1857.
