Crucifixion, with sword striking the Virgin's chest; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and soldiers in armour; rugged cross.
Pointed trefoils. Brickwork or tiled roof. Border of dentils; pinnacles; fluted pilasters.
Koechlin 1924: France (?), end of 14th century.
Jülich 2007: Rhineland (?), 1st half of 15th century.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Chamfered on the longer sides. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost. Blue and white label with inscription: '732'.
Object Condition
Two holes plugged with ivory (for attachment of the missing handle).
Comments
Koechlin believes that this panel once was the right wing of a diptych (Koechlin 1924).
Provenance
Probably from the collection of Baron von Hüpsch (b. 1730, d. 1805), Cologne; acquired in 1805 by the Museum.
