Ivory

Height: 130mm

Depth: 10mm

Crucifixion, with jet of blood striking the Virgin's chest; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; Sun and Moon on either side of the cross under the arch; clouds.
Pinnacles; pointed trefoils.

Koechlin 1924: France, 2nd half of the 14th century.
Sprinz 1925: Germany, 14th century.
Schenkluhn 1987 and Museum's opinion 2012: France, c. 1350.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Remains of old labels. Inscription: '5950', corresponding to the old inventory number in the Sigmaringen Collection.

Object Condition
Two small holes in the upper part of the panel (visible from the back).

Provenance
Acquired in 1928 from the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen collection (Fürstlich Hohenzollernsche Sammlung).
