Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive gilding and polychromy: red (ears), black and gold (birds and foliated decoration). Painted inscription: 'AVE MARIA CN PLENA DOMINVS TECVM [...]' on one side and 'BENEDITA MULIERIBVSCRENADIS' on the other (transcription from Kryzhanovskaya 2014).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: foliated extensions along the outside of the volute.
Several filled holes on the inside of the volute.

Provenance
Collection of Grigorii Sergeievich Stroganoff (b. 1829, d. 1910), Saint Petersburg: donated before 1902 to the Museum of the Society for the Encouragement of the Fine Arts (Muzei OPKh); transferred to the Hermitage in 1929.
