Ivory;metal (fittings)

Height: 59 mm

Adoration of the Magi with Joseph; throne. Pietà (Lamentation of the Virgin over Christ's body).
Angels holding a crowned coat of arms; foliated decoration; crouching figures on either side of the lock projection and at the back.
Lid decorated with quatrefoils.

Ribičić-Županić 2007 and 2008: Flemish (?), 16th century (?).

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Green staining and holes indicate the former presence of metal fittings. Holes for the missing lock.

Provenance
Collection of Octave Homberg (b. 1876, d. 1941), Paris: sold, Paris, 11-16 May 1908, lot 494 (purchased by Gradt?). Collection of Ante Topić Mimara (b. 1898, d. 1987): donated to the Croatian people in 1973; foundation of the museum in 1980 and opening to the public in 1987.
