Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherds; musician shepherd holding a shawm; Virgin holding Christ's left arm; sheep.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Museum's opinion 2015: France, 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the right side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth.

Object Condition
Parts of the background seem to have been cut out, including the shepherd with a shawm, the face of another shepherd to the left and the face and hands of the angel to the right. Part of the Virgin's left hand has also been treated in this way.
Discolouration.

Provenance
Given by Miss Christian Clark in 1783 to the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (established in 1780); its collections passed into public ownership in 1858 as the original collections of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland.
