Reverse
Carved in the round but lower relief on the back.
Object Condition
Missing: piece in the lower part of the handle, at the back; head of the hawk.
At the base of the reverse, incision 20mm in length with a rectangular section and traces of iron staining.
Dark brown tone possibly due to extended immersion in marshland.
Provenance
Found at Crowland Abbey, Lincolnshire; donated to the Museum in 1932.
